Every Thursday afternoon, we have music class! We begin and end each class with the Bread and Butter song which the children love! They practice making their voices soft/loud and fast/slow. Later we used the rhthym sticks and practiced our counting: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8! Lastly we sang a song about fish, and followed the teacher around the yard!

Many of the children have recenetly gone for their check-ups. Their visits are still fresh in their mind and they have been demonstrating what happens at a check-up. Aria pretended to be a doctor while Cassidy pretended to be the nurse that assisted her. They made sure to check Teacher Cassie's temperature, give her shots and then made bandaids out of tape and stickers. Enzo and Ryan also came by to check everyone's heart beat! The children are careful and gentle with each other. They are great at taking care of one another.

This morning, the children participated in P.E. with Sharon. To ensure that the children are safe during physical education, Sharon has been reviewing safety rules with the students. One of our rules and vocabulary word is: Stay within the BOUNDARY. The boundaries are made up of colored cones and spots. The children then physically demonstrate this rule by walking, skipping or running to the particular color Sharon or the students call out. We also learned a fun activity called "Mess up and Clean up". The children are responsible for picking up the MESS "bean bags" and placing then on any colored dot. Once clean, the children get to pick up the MESS and place it within the boundary. The children had a great time moving around the gym while reviewing colors, following rules and directions and learning new vocabulary words!!!

Today the children were busy building car washes in the block area! As they were building the children discussed what they knew about car washes. They came up with a variety of answers such as, "water" ,"the cars line up", and "they go slow". At one point there were so many children that the cars started to go faster and crash into each other. One child had an idea to make a sign for the rules of the car wash and made a sign that said "no crashing". Other children quickly followed suit and before we knew it, the block area turned into the "sign making" area. This was a fun way to for the children to practice their writing skills in the block area!

This week the children have been very interested in making bridges in the block area! They lined up the blocks side by side, sometimes making "double decker" bridges with multiple lanes! They also came up with some rules for their bridge: only one car at a time, start on one side, and no crashing!
Teacher Stephanie found some circle shaped recycled materials and invited some children over to build their own cars at the art table!

Many of the children have been exploring the collage and recycled materials to create artwork. Amir wanted to make his baby sister a toy box. He said, "I put a carpet inside to make it nice and soft for my baby sister." Cayden also used a box, but he painted it blue for his big sister. We love seeing how creative the children can be!

This afternoon, the children enjoyed playing "something in my bag". One student selects an item to place in the bag, then the remaining children guess what is inside! Aria hid a camera in the bag. Her peers guessed is might be a yogurt or a globe. They were very surprised when the camera was revealed. Games like these help support their cognitive development!

This morning the children were busy bees in the classroom! Friendships are forming and children were giggling as they shared their ideas and navigated through the classroom materials. A group of children created a car in the house area by lining up the chairs and drove off to Disneyland, while others were busy building roads in the block area! Another group of children worked strategically at the writing table to create their very own masterpieces!

We like to think of our outdoor area as an extension of the classroom. On this first week of school, many of the children have been excited to use this space to play, explore, and work on new skills! Riding the bicycles is not only fun, but strengthen's the children's gross motor skills as they push the medals to move. Digging in the sandbox encourages chhildren to share space and materials with one another, while they hypothesize with friends on what to build. The sensory table filled with rice sparks conversations about volume, measurement, and is a relaxing activity for both chiildren and teachers.

Each child selected their preferred writing tool , such as markers, pencils, dry erase markers and letter stamps to express their ideas. Throughout the year they will have continued opportunities to strengthen their fine motor and literacy skills!
