We are continuing to explore paint and how it moves. This week we are making suncatchers! The children scoop white glue into their jar lid, then drop water color into the glue and swirl it with a toothpick. As it dries, the paint slowly blends and the glue dries clear. We will be hanging them up on the window to see all the colors shine through!

Lunch Time is the best time to relax and take care of our bodies with some nutritious food! The children love getting to sit with their friends from both groups and engaging with one another. This is the opportune time to work on communication skills like taking turns in conversation, asking questions, and listening to their friend’s ideas. Today’s lunch time topics included going to kindergarten, circle shaped-crackers, Legoland, and spiders!

Today we had a special guest come to Utopia this morning! Jaxon’s mom set up a very exciting arts & crafts activity for the children during our inside time! Jaxon’s mom & the teachers helped the children step by step as they created their very own personalized magnets using colorful stamps, sharpie pens, paper, glue, & clear stones. The children made various designs for their magnets such as flowers, faces, shapes, animals, & more. Afterwards, Jaxon’s mom read them a book called Jack B. Ninja, which the children thoroughly enjoyed!

The block area has a bunch of trinkette type treasures for the children to add to their building structures. Today we talked about being intentional with materials and counting out how many we need instead of dumping them all out. This supports the children in counting and really thinking about what they need while exploring these materials. Cassidy S. used wood blocks and made a circle. Then Sam M. added the gems to go inside the circle. They said it was a pool and the big dinosaurs were protecting the baby dinosaurs. After that the children began to add these trinkettes as little accent pieces to their buildings!
The children have taken an interest in all the birds that have been visiting our yard this Spring! To build on our knowledge of birds, we created a chart of common birds have seen in the area. This science exploration also encourages math skills like counting, classification, and number quantity. We also practiced how to quietly sneak up on the birds to get a closer look without scaring them away.

Whenever it’s a child’s birthday at Utopia Preschool, parents/guardians are more than welcome to bring in a birthday treat for the whole class to enjoy! We pass out the treats at lunch time and sing happy birthday to the birthday celebrant! Today, the children got to celebrate Emery’s early birthday on Saturday! They indulged in mini chocolate cupcakes and watermelon juice! Later on in the afternoon, the children were busy at the art table outside. Ellie remembering Emery’s birthday was coming up, created a birthday card for her using colored construction paper and markers. Ellie asked Emery how to spell her name, so she could write it on the card. Afterwards, she asked Teacher Jamie how to spell “Happy Birthday.” The children have been so friendly and generous with each other!

This week we are using a new tool for painting: Cardboard! The children scrape the paint on their paper with the side of the cardboard to make all kinds of patterns and color combinations. Some of the children decided to use paint for the first time! It’s exciting to see them try something new.

This week the children will be designing costumes for the baby dolls and stuffed animals! Today they used different fabrics, tape, scissors, snd string to dress up the dolls. Tne fabrics vary in thickness and so the children really exercised their fine motor skills when using scissors. Some asked another friend to hold the fabric out while they cut to make it easier!
Emery: Super hero baby!
Sydney L.: I made a hawaiian dress, shorts, and a headband
Violet: I made a dress and bows
