Utopia Preschool

On our last day, the children built ramps together, used magnet tiles to build trains in the block area, examined rocks in the science area, identified them using the iPad and drew them. During our morning, we practiced the earthquake drill, ducked and covered our heads under tables safely with teachers. We hope everyone has a safe, happy and healthy holiday.

This morning we walked over to our neighbors at Alma Via. We sang “Rise and Shine, Welcome to Alma Via”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and danced the “Rudolph Hokey Pokey”. The children also decorated Christmas trees, wreaths and stockings to hand out to all the residents of Alma Via. They also helped make a “Merry Christmas” sign to hang at Alma Via. The children had lots of fun spreading holiday cheer!

This week we are adding to our clothing using fabric, felt, and permanent markers! The children are working on their writing skills as they draw their own designs on the fabric. Cutting fabric and taping  also helps refine fine motor skills.

Today John’s mom Alejandra prepared cookies, icing and sprinkles for the children! Each child was able to decorate two cookies each! They used big popsicle sticks to smear icing on their cookies, and were able to decorate with red and green sprinkles! Thank you for the yummy activity, Leonard family!

This afternoon the children were excited to have more time in the gym! Some children played matching games, others drew detailed pictures and some practiced kicking a ball! Here are some friends in action!

At the writing table the children are able to use white board markers to draw! Jaxson H. used the white board to play Tic-Tac Toe with his teachers, Robbie drew animals and Kazu practiced writing the numbers of his favorite football players!

Today a group of children visited Carroll Hall to do some Christmas shopping for family. The children had so much fun looking at all the gifts and  picking out which gift their family member would love.

With the weather being wet today, we headed to the gym for outside time in the afternoon. The children have so much room to run around! They played basketball, pretended to be trains chugging along the track and even enjoyed some drawing and block building. This supports gross motor development and social skills.

We have a period of quiet rest time at 12:00 everyday. The children are now accustomed to our routine of going potty, setting up their bedding, and choosing some books to read quietly. Some of the children are able to sleep the entire nap time, while others can rest and do an activity quietly at their beds. Everyone needs their rest, it helps us stay focused and grow!

Today the children took their shoes off and experienced walking on bubble wrap! They tried walking and jumping on the bubbles to make them pop!
