Utopia Preschool

We had a special visit today from Elaine's mom, Tracy! Tracy read the book Mixed by Aree Chung, a story about the beauty of mixing colors (and people!). Afterwards, the children were able to mix their own colors and paint by doing some fold painting. They painted two sides of a heart with primary colors, then folded and opened the heart to reveal new colors, just like in the story.  We were also lucky that Tracy is a nurse and got to share some of her expertise with us. During our second group time, Tracy read the story Nurses and What They Do by Lisbet Slegers. This was a great introduction for Tracy to show us lots of tools that real nurses use in the doctor's office and hospital! She passed around a stethoscope, blood pressure monitor, empty syringe, masks, medicine cups, and oxygen masks! The children had lots of questions and comments about times they went to the doctor, especially stories about when they received a shot.  We are so thankful for our Utopia families for ...

We had another visitor on Monday: Rhys' mom, Elizabeth! Rhys' family is joining us for their second year at Utopia so Elizabeth was familiar with our routine. She brought in a story called The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming, a silly book about a squirrel who is a bit confused about the changing seasons. This story was perfect for the fall season that we are now in! After the book, Elizabeth stayed for our Inside Time where she helped the children create wreaths out of paper, leaves, glue! The children got to take their wreaths home at the end of the day and hang it in their home. Later in the week, the children painted red, yellow, and orange leaves to adorn classroom. Thank you again, Elizabeth for spending time with us this morning.       

As our last reward for hitting our Fun Run goal, we had a visit to the Tot Lot on Brotherhood Way! It was our first time having a walking field trip together and we made sure to talk about all the ways to be safe as we travelled there.  On our way to the park, everyone practiced staying in line and with the group. They also practiced waiting at the intersection for the sign to show us the walking image so we knew it was safe to cross the street. Waiting isn't easy, but everyone was very patient together! Once we got to the park, the children were off to explore the grounds. They took turns going down the slide, climbed onto the structures, ran together and made themselves dizzy on the spinning seats! It was a good time and we made it back just before it really started to heat up!
