Our First Music Class, with Teacher Linette

This week we started Music Wednesdays in Carol Hall. As this was our first class of the year, we worked on foundational skills like following prompts of the song, moving our bodies to the rhythm, noticing changes in tempo and singing together. The children also used bean bags as props to dance and shake!  Music is a great way for the children to express themselves, and also teaches important concepts like early math (counting the beat), letter recognition, hand eye coordination, and self regulation.

Part of being in preschool is learning how to interact in a group setting. Group Time (also called Circle Time) is an important part of our daily routine. Sitting and focusing on a specific task is essential to the children's development, especially as we prepare them for Kindergarten, and a lot can happen within those 10-15 minutes! A typical Group Time consists of gathering the children and finding a place to sit. Then a teacher leads a song, reads a book, or introduces a group activity. We also like to announce any of the special activities going on that day, explore a certain topic, or showcase the children's work. Each Group Time is different, but gives the children a consistent time in the day for them to listen, follow along, sing, develop language, ask questions, and so much more. They are also tuning into their bodies, like sitting on their bottoms, raising their hand to speak, and keeping their hands and feet to themselves - it's a lot for them to remember!  Our g...

First Week of School!

Welcome the 2025-2026 school year to all of our preschoolers at Utopia! The children are making new friends, reunited with old friendships, and getting to know their teachers and our classroom. The first few days are always full of emotions, whether it's excitement or nerves, we are here to support you as much as possible and make this year memorable and always fun.
