A Visit from Aiden's parents! 👻 Nurse Felise and Nurse Sam
Aiden's parents, Sam and Felise, came to our classroom this week to read us a book called Gustavo the Shy Ghost by Flavia Z. Drago. This story is about a little ghost who really wants to make a friend, but is feeling shy. He finds the courage to make friends by sharing his music! The children loved this story so much! After, they were able to make their own Gustavo ghost in the classroom using cotton balls, glue, and googly eyes. This book was a great way to introduce Dia de los Muertos, which is coming up November 1st.
It was especially nice to have both Sam and Felise at school today because they are both nurses! Sam works with adults and Felise is a NICU nurse who works with babies! Sam and Felise took turns talking about what nurses do to help people. Sam showed the children how he asks the patient questions, checks their lungs with a stethoscope, takes blood pressure, and oxygen levels! Then Felise talked about how she teaches new parents how to hold a baby, swaddle them, and change a diaper. She showed us how she does the same exam with babies as adults do! She and Sam shared that their favorite parts of being nurses are seeing their patients get better and grow.
Lastly they talked about how germs can spread! They talked about how germs are invisible and when we don't wash our hands, germs can spread from person to person when we shake hands or touch. The children got to put a little spot of green paint on their hands to pretend were germs, then washed their hands really well before lunch.
Thank you so much Sam and Felise for planning such a thoughtful visit for us today. We learned so much and had a lot of fun!
