Music Class Begins

This week we had our first Music Class with our very own music teacher, Linette! She led the children in a few listening and movement songs in the gym using a set of colored dots for the children to stand on. She gave specific instructions like "stand ON your dot" then "step OFF your dot" to observe the children's listening skills. Simple instructions like this can still be difficult for little wiggly bodies, especially in a big space like the school gym where it's inviting to run around. Getting an understanding of the expectations at Music Class is important for the children's approach to learning skills, as they must follow the group while controlling their bodies. We had plenty of time to dance and listen to the prompts of the song like "jump like a frog,""shake like a wet dog," and "wiggle like a worm!"

Each week we will add more to music class, like rhythm patterns, more complex movements, counting and reading music notes, playing instruments, and so much more! We're very lucky to have our talented Teacher Linette with us at Utopia.
